{"id":1214,"date":"2010-03-31T23:26:51","date_gmt":"2010-04-01T05:26:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.realtimerendering.com\/blog\/?p=1214"},"modified":"2010-03-31T23:26:51","modified_gmt":"2010-04-01T05:26:51","slug":"fmx-and-triangle-game-conference-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.realtimerendering.com\/blog\/fmx-and-triangle-game-conference-2010\/","title":{"rendered":"FMX and Triangle Game Conference 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post is about two conferences that might not be as familiar to readers of this blog as SIGGRAPH and GDC.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmx.de\/\">FMX<\/a> is an annual conference run by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmakademie.de\/?L=1\">Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg Film Academy<\/a>, held in Stuttgart, Germany at the beginning of May.\u00a0 This year is the 15th one for FMX, and the content <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmx.de\/timetable.E.211.html\">appears quite promising<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There are a bunch of game talks, including talks about <em>Split\/Second<\/em>, <em>Heavy Rain<\/em>, <em>Fight Night 4<\/em>, <em>Alan Wake<\/em>, <em>Habbo Hotel<\/em>, two talks on <em>God of War III<\/em> and one on <em>Arkham Asylum<\/em> (the last three are repeats of GDC talks).\u00a0 However, most of the talks relate to film production, including presentations on <em>The Princess and The Frog<\/em>, <em>Tangled<\/em>, <em>2012<\/em>, <em>Alice in Wonderland<\/em>, <em>Ice Age 3<\/em>, <em>Iron Man 2<\/em>, <em>Clash of the Titans<\/em>, <em>Sherlock Holmes<\/em>, <em>District 9<\/em>, <em>Shutter Island<\/em>, <em>Planet 51<\/em>, <em>Avatar<\/em>, <em>A Christmas Carol<\/em>, <em>The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus<\/em>, <em>How to Train Your Dragon<\/em>, and <em>Where the Wild Things Are<\/em>.\u00a0 FMX 2010 also has various master classes on the use of various DCC applications and middleware libraries, recruiting talks, presentation of selected SIGGRAPH 2009 papers, and more.\u00a0 Attendance fees are quite reasonable (200 Euros, 90 for students) so this conference should be good value for readers in Europe who can travel cheaply to Germany.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trianglegameconference.com\/\">Triangle Game Conference<\/a> is held in Raleigh, North Carolina.\u00a0 Its name comes from the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Research_Triangle\">&#8220;research triangle&#8221;<\/a> defined by Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.\u00a0 This area is home to several prominent game companies, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epicgames.com\/\">Epic Games<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redstorm.com\/\">Red Storm Entertainment<\/a>, and branches of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ea.com\/\">Electronic Arts<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insomniacgames.com\/\">Insomniac Games<\/a>.\u00a0 I first heard of this conference last year, when it hosted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crytek.com\/fileadmin\/user_upload\/inside\/presentations\/2009\/A_bit_more_deferred_-_CryEngine3.ppt\">a very good talk<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crytek.com\/\">Crytek<\/a> on deferred shading in CryEngine 3.\u00a0 This year, the content <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trianglegameconference.com\/content\/schedule_program\">looks interesting<\/a>, if a bit mixed; the presentations by Epic and Insomniac seem to be the best ones.\u00a0 Definitely worth attending if you&#8217;re in that area, but I wouldn&#8217;t travel far for it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This post is about two conferences that might not be as familiar to readers of this blog as SIGGRAPH and GDC.
